How to claim the reward
- Create your account through our Lightyear UK link.
- Enter INVESTINGINTHEWEBUK during onboarding. You can also add it later in the app under Profile, Settings, Promotions, as long as you signed up in the last 15 days.
- Finish onboarding and open a GIA if your first account is an Individual Savings Account (ISA).
- Deposit at least £100 within 15 days.
- Claim the pending reward in the Portfolio tab and choose your fractional share or ETF.
The reward is placed as a market order, which you cannot change or cancel. If the market is closed, the order is filled when it opens.
How much will you receive?
The amount is random and follows these odds:

Using the middle of each range, the average reward is about £21 (our own estimate). If you pick a share that trades in another currency, the 0.1% FX fee is taken from the reward, which is 1.5p on a £15 reward.
Can you use the code with an ISA?
Yes, you can use it when opening a GIA or a Stocks and Shares ISA, but the reward is always credited to a GIA. If you only have an ISA, you need to open and verify a GIA to receive it.
The share therefore sits outside your ISA, so it may be subject to Capital Gains Tax when you sell it. Tax depends on your circumstances and may change.
When can you lose the reward?
- Withdrawals in the first 6 months: from the day you receive the reward, the terms require net funding (deposits minus withdrawals and outward transfers) of at least the qualifying deposit plus the value of the reward. Market falls do not count against you. If you drop below that level, Lightyear reclaims the reward's original value.
- Moving the reward too early: you can only withdraw it or transfer it to another provider after 6 months. If you sell the share, the lock applies to a sum equal to the reward's original value.
- Several accounts: the offer is limited to one promotion per customer, and accounts coordinated through family members or other people can lead to disqualification.
The safest approach is to leave your money with Lightyear for the full 6 months. Lightyear can also change or withdraw the promotion at any time, so confirm the terms before you sign up.
Is the Lightyear UK offer worth it?
If you already want a Lightyear account, entering the code costs nothing. Its value is small next to the fees you will pay over the years, so the platform should be your starting point, not the reward.
According to Lightyear's UK pricing, there are no order fees on US, UK and EU stocks, ETFs (fund manager fees apply) and gilts, no account fee and a 0.1% currency conversion fee.
