Interest is taxed at 12% in Croatia and a Croatian bank deducts it before you see it. Interest from a bank in another country reaches you gross and goes on your own INO-DOH form by 31 January. The rates below are gross in both cases.

What to know if you live in Croatia

Deposits are covered up to €100,000 per depositor per credit institution, and up to €130,000 in total for three months when the money comes from the sale of the home you lived in, a marriage or divorce, retirement, the end of a job, disability, illness or death, or an insurance or compensation payment (HAOD).

Interest is taxed at 12%, deducted by the payer when it is paid or credited, so a Croatian bank withholds it. Interest on accounts paying 0.5% a year or less is exempt, as is interest on bonds (Porezna uprava). Interest from a bank in another country has no Croatian payer behind it, so you report it yourself on Obrazac INO-DOH by 31 January for the previous year.
