What to know if you live in Finland
Deposits are covered up to €100,000 per customer per bank by the scheme run by the Financial Stability Authority (Finanssivalvonta).
Interest on a Finnish deposit carries a 30% withholding tax that the bank deducts. It is final: you do not declare it and you cannot get it back (Vero). Interest from a bank in another country is treated as ordinary capital income instead, 30% up to €30,000 of capital income in the year and 34% above that, with nothing withheld, so you declare it in OmaVero or on form 16B (Vero).
