The Livret A, the LDDS and the LEP are guaranteed by the State and capped. Everything on this page sits outside them, taxed at 12.8% plus social levies, and every account held abroad has to go on form 3916 each year.

What to know if you live in France

Deposits are covered up to €100,000 per person per bank by the Fonds de Garantie des Dépôts et de Résolution, plus €500,000 for money received in the three months before a failure from a home sale, retirement capital, an inheritance or a severance payment (FGDR). The Livret A, the LDDS and the LEP sit outside that entirely: they are guaranteed by the State.

Interest is taxed at a flat 12.8% plus social levies, 17.2% on 2025 income and 18.6% on 2026 income, so 30% and then 31.4% in total (service-public.gouv.fr). A French bank withholds it and you recover it through box 2CK. A bank in another country withholds nothing, so you report the interest on form 2047 and carry it to box 2TR. Every account held abroad must also be declared on form 3916, with a €1,500 penalty per account if it is not (impots.gouv.fr).
