What to know if you live in Croatia

Dividends and capital gains are taxed at 12%. A Croatian payer withholds on dividends (Porezna uprava). A broker abroad withholds nothing Croatian, so you report the gains yourself on Obrazac JOPPD by the end of February and any foreign income on Obrazac INO-DOH by 31 January. Gains are reduced by the losses you realised in the same year, and nothing is filed when total gains are under €16.70 (Porezna uprava).

The holding period still matters: the law does not tax a disposal made more than two years after the asset was acquired (čl. 67 st. 8 Zakona o porezu na dohodak). If a firm fails, the investor protection system covers up to €20,000 (HANFA).
