The osakesäästötili takes listed shares only, so ETFs and investment funds cannot go in it. Gains are capital income at 30% and 34%, and nothing is due at all if your securities sales in the year come to €1,000 or less.

What to know if you live in Finland

Of a listed-company dividend, 85% is taxable capital income at 30% up to €30,000 of capital income and 34% above. A Finnish payer withholds 25.5% of the gross dividend; a payer abroad withholds no Finnish tax, so you check and complete the amount in your pre-completed return (Vero). Gains are taxed at the same 30% and 34% and declared on form 9, and nothing is due if your total securities sales in the calendar year come to €1,000 or less. Losses go first against gains, then against other capital income, and carry forward five years, never against earned income (Vero).

One limit worth knowing: the osakesäästötili holds only listed shares, so ETFs and investment funds cannot go in it (Vero). If a firm fails, compensation is 90% of the claim up to €20,000.
