A Polish broker sends you a PIT-8C with the figures already worked out. A broker abroad sends nothing, so you compute revenue, costs and result yourself and convert every euro amount into złoty, which puts the exchange rate into your taxable result.

What to know if you live in Poland

Dividends and capital gains are taxed at a flat 19%. A Polish broker sends you a PIT-8C with the figures already worked out; a broker abroad sends nothing, so you compute the revenue, the costs and the result yourself and still file PIT-38 by 30 April. Euro amounts have to be converted into złoty, which puts the exchange rate into the taxable result (podatki.gov.pl).

Foreign dividends and interest go in field 46 of PIT-38 and the tax withheld abroad in field 47, but that credit is capped at the Polish 19%, so anything withheld above it is lost. Losses carry forward five years, at most half the loss in any single year, or in one go up to 5,000,000 złoty. Investor compensation runs to €20,100 per investor, 100% of the first €3,000 and 90% above it (KDPW).
