What to know if you live in Slovakia

Gains on shares and ETFs are taxed at 19% up to €48,441.43 of the tax base and 25% above it, but they are exempt where the security is admitted to trading on a regulated market, you held it more than a year and it is not a business asset (Finančná správa). Income less expenses up to €500 a year is exempt too. A loss cannot be reported: where expenses exceed income the difference is simply disregarded (Finančná správa).

Dividends out of profits from periods starting in 2025 carry 7%, and 35% when they come from a non-cooperating state, declared by you in appendix 2 of the DPFO typ B return with the source country in section XIII (Finančná správa). Investor protection runs to €50,000 (Garančný fond investiícií).
