What to know if you live in Slovenia

Dividends are taxed at 25%, withheld by a Slovenian payer; a dividend from abroad is declared by you, by 28 February for the previous year (FURS). Capital gains fall with the holding period: 25% under five years, 20% after five, 15% after ten and nothing at all after fifteen. You file a return by 28 February whether you sold at a profit or a loss, and e-filing through eDavki is compulsory above ten transactions in the year (FURS).

From 5 March 2026 an individualni naložbeni račun lets you trade inside the account without tax and pay 15% only on withdrawal, with the first withdrawal after fifteen years exempt if you took nothing out before. Limits are €20,000 in the opening year, then €5,000 a year, and €150,000 over a lifetime. A provider from another country can offer one if it serves Slovenia through a branch or under freedom of services (Ministry of Finance). If a firm fails, the guaranteed claim runs to €22,000 per investor (art. 450 ZTFI-1).
