What to know if you live in Estonia
Gains on securities are taxed at 22% and declared on form A, table 6.1 for gains received in Estonia and table 8.2 for gains from abroad. A loss on securities is set against gains on other securities and carried forward where there are none (Maksu- ja Tolliamet).
The rule that should drive the choice of broker is the investeerimiskonto. With a cash account at a qualifying institution in the EEA or the OECD, nothing is taxed until the money you take out exceeds the money you put in, and you declare cash flows rather than individual trades, in table 6.5 with the IBAN and SWIFT of the institution. A broker that does not settle through a nominated cash account, or an instrument outside the eligible list, falls out of that deferral. Investor protection runs to €20,000 per investor (Tagatisfond).
